It's time to quilt

I always feel enthusiastic when I get a quilt (or part of a quilt) all pin basted and ready for quilting. I usually lower the feed dog and free-motion quilt. The baby quilt with the appliqued kitten is ready.

baby quilt in progress

This quilt is the latest that I'm working on. I designed the applique myself. It is hand work, needleturn applique and hand embroidered.

Creating Quilts

I'm inserting a photo of a baby sweater and hat that I crocheted this week for a baby shower gift.
All of those baby quilts shown on this blog have now been sent off for the new babies. So I'm designing a new one just to have on hand. I started by drawing a picture. I'll make the quilt in the same fashion as the one with the applique doggy design in the center. So now I'm making the new one with an applique cat design.

Meanwhile, the puff quilt is progressing. I've had to search through my stash for those small bits of cloth that I can use up. I find that I can sew up a puff every time I'm waiting for my computer to warm up. Although you can make a puff quilt with a pattern of colors in mind, the one I'm making is just a big mixture of fabrics.

Sewing away

I've been making a lot of those puffs for the puff quilt (under construction) that is shown here on my blog. I plan to search out my oldest scraps today and cut those out. I'm trying to come up with an applique design for the center of another baby quilt. I want to make one to have on hand for a baby gift. So, I have lots of projects right now.

another baby quilt

This is a similar quilt that I made recently. The center design is from a book "A Passion for Patchwork" by Lise Bergene.

baby quilt completed

Here's my completed baby quilt. It's an easy quilt that I designed. I free-motion quilted it. It's a good way to use up left-over fabrics. This is how to make one like it: Make an applique or embroidered design in the center. This section should be 12 by 13 1/2 (includes 1/4 inch seams.) I make the applique on a larger piece of fabric and trim it to size when the applique is finished. Cut fabrics 4 inches wide to finish 3 1/2. Add the strips to the top and bottom first, then all around. My quilt finishes about 40 by 47 inches.
