Half Log cabin I spy quilt
Here's what I've been working on feverishly. It's a half-log-cabin-I-spy quilt. I love making log cabin quilts, in fact, a log cabin was the first quilt I made. This quilt, like most log cabins, has a dimensional aspect that I particularly like. I have to add borders and quilt this, of course. I like to cut my "logs" 1 3/4 inches wide. I don't cut widths, I add the strips to the sides and then I lop them off with my rotary cutter.

It's a great way to do an I Spy quilt! I was making hexagon ones for awhile, but got tired of those and am doing a variety now. Haven't done this type yet, but what a good idea!

Cute! Do you use muslin on the backs of each block, to keep from warping? This is the way they do them on "Heartstrings" and I was just curious. I once tried, and I emphasize TRIED to make some log cabin blocks, and they ended up so WONKY. I had heard of paper-piecing, and after making one or two of the blocks that way, I couldn't see myself removing the backs of that many blocks. I just recently found out about using the muslin as backing. I haven't tried it yet tho.
